Israel Gutierrez of the Palm Beach Post reports: -- Heat coach Pat Riley gave Anthony Mason his first real chance in the NBA when both were with the New York Knicks.
For that, Mason always will be thankful. But what's fresh on the forward's mind is how he was treated in the off-season as a free agent.
Mason said the Heat never even made him a contract offer, and Mason had to wait until just before the season began to sign a four-year, $20 million contract with the Milwaukee Bucks.
"No offer. It was a total disrespect," Mason said Tuesday from Milwaukee. "The sad part is I didn't get a chance to say what I wanted. It wasn't a discussion. It didn't even get there."
"You can say luxury tax if you want to, but we're talking about a billionaire (Heat owner Micky Arison), not a millionaire," Mason said. "But my mom always taught me what goes around comes around. They showed me they had no respect for me."
Mason said he doesn't plan on speaking to Riley when the Heat and Bucks meet Thursday in Milwaukee.
"I have nothing to say to him," Mason said. "I got a family also. I got people that look to me to take care of them. He knows my family, it's not like he doesn't."
